The Worcestershire new town of Redditch lies about fifteen miles to the South of Birmingham on the banks of the River Arrow and is home to nearly 80,000 inhabitants.
One of the county's largest towns, Redditch was historically an industrial town but since extensive redevelopment in the 1960s has been transformed into an attractively landscaped and above all verdant place, with many public parks and gardens.
The retail heart of the town is based around the recently refurbished Kingfisher Shopping Centre, which offers a wide array of popular high street chains and many smaller independent establishments in a pristine modern setting. The shopping centre is famed for its palm trees and mosaic panels by artist Eduardo Paolozzi.
Many other shops and boutiques find a home in the surrounding area of the town centre, making Redditch a regional hub for visiting shoppers.
